History of creation of Training Center
The Training Center for Radioecology was established within the IAEA Project UKR/9/020 in 2001-2004 on the base of the International Radioecology Laboratory (IRL) of the Chornobyl Center.
The main objective of the project was a creation of the training material and technical basis for radioecological research, in particular at the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.
The IAEA assisted through consultations and training of the IRL staff and through supply of the laboratory with the special equipment. The IRL experts got acquainted with the procedures of radioecological research, radiochemical analysis, method of alpha-spectrometric measurements of the environmental samples and modern cytogenetic methods of study of the mammals and use of GIS.
