The Memorandum of Understanding For Scientific and Technological Cooperation Between The Iraqi Ministry of Science and Technology And State Scientific and Research Institution “Chornobyl Center for Nuclear Safety, Radioactive Waste and Radioecology” Was Signed
On 21-25 June 2011, the International meeting for decommissioning the Iraqi Russian-made Research Reactor took place in Kyiv. Participants of the meeting included representatives of the Iraqi Ministry of Science and Technology, representatives of the OJSC “Scientific, Research and Design Institute of Assembly Technology – Atomstroy” (Russia), and the Chornobyl Center top-managers.
The meeting was focused on discussing the issues for the Iraqi Research Reactor decommissioning. The Memorandum of Understanding For Scientific and Technological Cooperation Between The Iraqi Ministry of Science and Technology And State Scientific and Research Institution “Chornobyl Center for Nuclear Safety, Radioactive Waste and Radioecology” was signed. The Memorandum facilitates mutual cooperation for promoting science and technology in the field of radiation safety.
The cooperation activities within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be aiming to assist the Iraqi side to establish a National Radioecology Laboratory, train Iraqi scientists, engineers and technicians in the areas related to radioecology analysis, as well as to provide help for purchasing laboratory equipment, standard radioactive sources for equipment calibration and required solutions and scientific literature.
