Design Analytical Substantiation of Symptom-Oriented Emergency Instructions (SOEI) for Critical Safety Functions (CSF) Renewal at SU NPP Unit 1
Period: 2006-2007
Customer: SE NNEGC Energoatom
Beneficiary: SS South Ukrainian NPP
The Project objective was to formulate strategies to renew satisfactory condition of CSF and primary actions of personnel related to implementation of the strategies above, substantiate effectiveness and identify priorities for the renewed strategies and actions; as well as to identify the parameters (set of parameters) for characterization of a need to perform one or another renewed action with the objective to put the power unit to a final safe condition by way of thermal and hydraulic calculations and engineering evaluations.
The following was included into the scope of the work performed:
- familiarization with the instructions on SUNPP Unit 1 CSF, identification of the basic strategies and actions put forward in the instructions;
- selection of accident initial events (AIE) and calculation scenarios for analytical substantiation of the instructions on optimum renewal with due regard to the results of the thermal and hydraulic calculations performed within the framework of probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) and design-basis accidents analysis (DBAA);
- thermal and hydraulic calculations and engineering evaluations of the selected emergency modes;
- substantiation of common data in the instructions on CSF renewal (if required);
- development of conclusions and recommendations, generation of the final report on analytical substantiation of the instructions on CSF renewal.
The analytical substantiation was performed for the reactor facility’s rated power operation mode.
The following are the project results:
- analytical confirmation of the strategies required to renew satisfactory condition of the critical safety functions (CSF), primary actions of personnel related to the strategies implementation, substantiation of effectiveness and identification of priorities for the renewed strategies and actions;
- analytical data available for the SOEI technical substantiations development.
