Delegation of Pakistan Lahore Government College visited the Chornobyl Center on November 16
The delegation included representatives from financial bodies, power supply corporation, military department, town and city administrations and diplomatic missions of Pakistan. The visit was a part of the training program arranged by Pakistan Government for the managerial staff with the objective to upgrade their qualification. Upon a request of the Pakistan Embassy in Ukraine, the Chornobyl Center experts familiarized the trainees with the results of their work in the area of nuclear safety, physical security and radioecology, conducted a briefing on the safety state at the nuclear power plants in Ukraine and on the Chornobyl catastrophe causes.
Our guests asked many questions about our experience in interface with other nuclear power plants, partnership opportunities, results of the research within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, causes of the Chornobyl accident.
The cooperation of the Chornobyl Center with experts of Pakistan began in August 2005, when a delegation from the Pakistan Embassy in Ukraine led by Ambassador Taj ul Haq visited Slavutych. The Ambassador got interested in the Center’s experience and partnership opportunities in the area of nuclear safety. In September, a delegation of Pakistani experts participated in the scientific and practical conference – Nuclear Facilities: Reliability and Safety – organized by the International Chornobyl Center in cooperation with the SSE Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Currently, Pakistan, as well as Ukraine, intends to develop nuclear power industry and has 2 operating power plants. Therefore, communication with specialists from various countries on the issues of nuclear power industry was surely interesting and useful for the Pakistani representatives.
