Assessment of Regulatory Needs for Registration, Control and Physical Security of Nuclear Facilities and Nuclear Material in Ukraine

The objective of the project was to define a need in the development of regulatory documents in the area of nuclear material registration and control, physical security of nuclear material and nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
Within the framework of the project:
- effective legal and standard acts of Ukraine related to nuclear material registration, control and physical security of nuclear material and nuclear facilities were collected and analyzed;
- information on legal and standard acts related to registration, control and physical security of nuclear materials and nuclear facilities, which have been under development or have been planned for the development, was collected;
- documents were categorized by the areas and by the level of hierarchy (laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines of inter-branch level; standards, regulations and guides, etc.);
- comparative analysis of effective laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines was performed.
The data collected provided a possibility to perform comparative analysis of the existing laws, regulations, standards, and guides, reveal nonconformities, define the areas not covered by the laws, regulations, standards, and guides.
The projected resulted in the development of appropriately agreed report on current situation and needs in the area of regulation of nuclear material registration, control and physical security of nuclear material and nuclear facilities.
