International practical training is taking place in the Chornobyl zone
12 mobile laboratories from Germany and Ukraine are participating in the practical training in ionizing radiation measurement within the Chornobyl exclusion zone.
The training was started on September 26 and will last until September 30, 2016.
36 experts and 10 trainers from the Chornobyl Center and the Institute of NPP Operational Safety under the NAS of Ukraine take part in the training.
During their activities, the trainees shall perform radiation monitoring on specially prepared sites located on certain routes in the exclusion zone. They also shall go through the procedures of soil sampling and preparing the samples for further studies in specially equipped areas of 10-kilometer zone; shall perform calibration and comparative measurements using mobile laboratory equipment.
The training was organized by the Federal Office for Radiological Protection in Germany jointly with SSRI “Chornobyl Center” (Ukraine), Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (France) and Lund University (Sweden), with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ukrainian State Agency for the Exclusion Zone Management, and State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.
